Learning piano can be tricky to start off. There is a total of 88 keys on a standard piano, which can be quite intimidating. However, they all follow the same pattern in sections of 12, which makes an octave. In an octave there are seven white keys, and five black keys. The best way to begin learning piano is to start by learning the order of the keys in one octave and then begin to translate the notes to all of the other octaves. There are many tricks online to remember the order of the keys. There is a large number of chords and scales you could learn on a piano, but they are both very important. Another important part of piano is ensuring that you have the correct posture and position of hand, as well as learning what each of the pedals at the base do to the sound.
When you are first learning to play piano, the best thing you can do is play slowly, and ensure that you are getting the notes correct. Since piano is played with one hand, it is more than okay to learn one hand at a time before combining them once you progress to playing songs. Even the more experienced players do this when learning a new piece! While learning the theory, you can find sheet music for a song you like, and practice learning that to keep you motivated. It is easiest to learn each individual part of a song at a tempo you are comfortable with until you are confident in the notes you are playing before you try to get it to the tempo it should be at.
