Singing: The Oldest Form of Making Music

Singer

Everyone likes to sing in the car or the shower, and that is a great starting point for training your voice! You probably know what songs you are able to sing easily, and which ones have notes that are too high or too low for you to sing comfortably. This gives you a good idea of what your range might be, and what your voice type might be. If you are most comfortable singing very high notes, you’re probably a soprano, and if it’s easiest for you to sing very low, you might be an alto. There are different types of singers based on whether you are a man or a woman, but it is solely focused on the notes you are able to sing.

Before you practice your singing, you should always begin with the correct posture and ensure that you are doing vocal warm-up exercises. Warm-ups can include anything from humming to pitch slides. You should also ensure that you are properly hydrated, and avoid certain foods such as dairy, spices, or oils, as these can affect the quality and clarity of your voice. If you are unable to obtain a vocal teacher, another option is to record yourself singing and listen to yourself, or have others listen to you sing and give feedback. Just like any other instrument, singing is something you can train and get better at!
